Why Peru

Not all cottons are created equal. Like coffee, cashmere or wine, the quality of cotton can vary greatly. Pima cotton dates back to it's cultivation in Peru as far back as 3100 B.C. Thanks to ideal growing conditions, extra-long staple length and hand harvesting, Peruvian pima cotton is the world's finest pima, known for its exceptional softness and brilliant luster, as well as its durability. One touch is all it takes to show you just how luxurious this cotton can be.

In order to grow exceptional cotton, you need exceptional growing conditions. Peruvian pima cotton grows lush and lovely along the northern coastal valleys of Peru. There, the rich soil soaks up just the right amount of moisture at near-perfect equatorial temperatures. The result is cotton with a silky luster and an unbelievably soft hand.

Unlike much commercial cotton, Peruvian pima cotton is harvested entirely by hand. Industrial harvesting leaves in scratchy impurities which affects cotton's smoothness and creates an unattractive yellowish cast. By comparison, the careful hand harvesting of Peruvian pima results in a brilliant white shade which takes beautifully to dyes. Another benefit: harvesting cotton by hand is also more environmentally friendly.

With any natural fiber, the longer and smoother the filament, the softer the hand. Because of its exceptionally long, 1-3/8" staple length (ordinary cotton fibers measure between 1/2" to 3/4"), Peruvian pima cotton is silky soft, extremely durable, and highly resistant to pilling. And unlike other fibers, pima cotton does not cause allergies, making it an excellent choice for people with skin sensitivities.

Softer and more absorbent than other cottons

Ideal growing conditions of coastal Peru create the best quality pima cotton in the world

Due to its extra-long 1-3/8" staple length, Peruvian pima cotton is especially soft, durable, and highly resistant to pilling

Environmentally friendly hand-harvesting results in brilliant white fibers which dye beautifully and are free from scratchy impurities

           ◦  Perfect for those who suffer from allergies or those with sensitive skin
